Bush Regeneration - every Mon morning
Dunbogan - Gogleys Lagoon/Trevors Corner
The
Mid North Coast Branch of National Parks Association complete bush regeneration
work every Monday morning at Gogleys Lagoon and Trevors Corner in Dunbogan,
a short drive south of Port Macquarie.
This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to contribute to the
restoration of this beautiful part of the NSW coast. No previous experience
is required as training will be given on the day, so come along and
gain some new skills while making new friends.
Work starts at 8 am and finishes at 11 am. You should bring morning
tea, plenty of drinking water, protective clothing, sturdy shoes, sunscreen,
insect repellent and a hat. The meeting place changes every week so
contact us in advance to book a place and ensure that you have the correct
meeting location. Contact Dave at daver@marine.org.au
CoastKeepers @ Bondi Fish Survey
- Sun 6th
On
the first Sunday of every other month a group of volunteer divers complete
a Fish Survey at various sites along the eastern suburbs of Sydney.
Ben Buckler at N Bondi is a site that we have frequently returned to
as it is home to an amazing diversity of fish life, but we regularly
dive other key sites including Gordon's Bay and Bear Island.
Fish Survey Training @ Narooma -
Fri 11th - Sat 12th
A
second group of divers from the Montague Dive Club (MDC) will complete
Fish Survey Training over the weekend. MDC divers are a mixture of local
and Canberra-based divers who share a love of diving along NSW's rugged
south coast. One of a few groups to regularly dive this far south MDC
is a great addition to CoastKeepers Fish Survey.
Bush Regeneration - Sun 27th
Muogamarra Nature Reserve, depart from Brooklyn
This
is a unique opportunity to visit Muogamarra Nature Reserve, an area
that is closed to public access for most of the year. You will be working
in Peats Crater and Peats Bight in the northern end of the reserve.
These areas originate from volcanic dykes and diatremes and were extensively
cleared and grazed in the 1840s. The fertile soils have since been invaded
by weeds, which are out-competing native plants.
Come and be involved in essential bush regeneration organised
by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. Travel by boat to Muogamarra
Nature Reserve then walk alongside waterways and through healthy bushland
to access the sites.
Tools, training and morning tea will be provided, no experience
is necessary. Boat departs from Brooklyn at 08.30 and returns approx
2pm. Booking is essential to ensure your place on the boat!
Fish Surveys - ongoing
CoastKeepers
dive groups will be completing Fish Surveys as part of their normal
diving activities. All CoastKeepers Fish Surveyors are volunteer divers
who wish to give something back to the marine environment they love.
Dive groups are collecting data from key locations all
along the NSW coast. The data they gather is collated by CoastKeepers
to be used by marine managers to monitor impacts on the NSW marine environment.
