CoastKeepers @ Bondi Fish Survey - Sun 2nd
July
saw the start of our CoastKeepers Fish Survey workshops and the first
CoastKeepers Fish Survey event when 5 participants completed their training
at Ben Buckler in Bondi. Great sea conditions enabled divers to survey
a wide area and lead to a productive day of fish spotting. Sightings included
several Port Jackson sharks, a beautiful Red Rockcod, some inquisitive
Blue Gropers and handfuls of Mado, Rock Cale, Old Wives and Eastern Hulafish.
These divers are now certified as AWARE - Fish Identification Specialty
divers and can participate in any CoastKeepers or HarbourKeepers organised
fish survey event.
The Bondi survey is an ongoing project that will provide a picture of
population numbers and seasonal variations over a 6 month period. The
data collected will be provided to BioNet - the state wide online database,
Project AWARE, the dive industry's leading nonprofit environmental organisation,
Waverley Council and the Bondi Marine Discovery Centre.
This project is supported by Coastcare and Hanson.
Please check out our Fish
Survey pages for more information on the surveys!
