Clean Up Australia Day - Royal National Park -
Sun 4th
This event is a great opportunity to explore Royal National Park with
experienced leaders from NPA's Southern Sydney Branch. The event will
be part walk / part clean up so you can enjoy the scenic Royal NP and
remove litter as you go. These areas see very few clean ups which makes
this a wonderful chance to contribute to a cleaner environment. There
are 2 possibilities on the day. You can complete a short 4 km walk from
Wattamolla to Curracurrang and back to Wattamolla again. Or from Curracurrang
continue walking to Garie for a total of 6km (arrange own transport from
Garie). There are even opportunities to cool off with a dip in the ocean
- that's the beauty of being a CoastKeeper!
Start time is 10 am and event duration is 4 hours. Please book your place
by calling Dave on 02 9299 0000 or daver@marine.org.au

Secrets of Seahorses on the beach at Manly Cove (between Manly Wharf and

Fish Survey Training at Jervis Bay - Fri 16th
- Sat 17th
Divers from the Jervis Bay Dive Club will become the second CoastKeepers
hub to be trained to conduct Fish Surveys over this weekend. Divers will
be trained in survey methodology, diver safety and techniques for identifying
the 50 target marine fish of the survey. Once certified the Jervis Bay
Dive Club divers will be able to monitor the distribution, frequency and
seasonal variations of the survey fish in their area.
These surveys will provide a valuable set of baseline data
for marine managers. Ongoing surveys will alert marine managers to impacts
that are influencing fish populations. Data from the Jervis Bay Fish Surveys
will additionally be sent to BioNet to help with marine management at
a state level. To learn more about Fish Surveys click here.
If you belong to a dive club in NSW and would like to find out how to
get involved contact Dave at daver@marine.org.au
This project is supported by Envirofund.

Bush Regeneration at Muogamarra Nature Reserve
Sat 17th
This
is a unique opportunity to visit Muogamurra Nature Reserve, an area that
is closed to public access for most of the year. You will be working in
Peats Crater and Peats Bight, in the northern end of the reserve. These
areas originate from volcanic dykes and diatremes and were extensively
cleared and grazed in the 1840's. The fertile soils have been invaded
by several exotic plant species, which have competed with natives since
the last of the cattle were removed in 1974.
Come and be involved in essential bush regeneration activities organised
by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. Travel by boat to Muogamarra
Nature Reserve then walk alongside waterways and through healthy bushland
to access the sites.
The tools, training and morning tea will be provided, no experience is
necessary. Bring plenty of drinking water, sun protection, long sleeves
and pants, sturdy shoes and a packed lunch.
To get involved you should first register as a
CoastKeeper. Once registered send an email to Dave daver@marine.org.au
to book a place on the boat.
Booking is essential to ensure your place on the boat!
