Clean Up Australia Day - Sun
01
Coastkeepers
are running a variety of clean up events for Clean Up Australia Day at
locations all along the NSW coast. With marine debris recognised as a
key threat to many threatened species in NSW the importance of clean ups
can not be overstressed. Plastics, cigarette butts, drinks collars and
plastic bags all take a horrible toll on marine animals, so join a clean
up event and save a life!
More events will be added over the coming weeks so come
back to see events you can join!

Bush Regeneration - Sun 01, 08.30-14.00
(approx rtn)
Peats Bight, Muogamarra Nature Reserve
This
is a unique opportunity to visit Muogamarra Nature Reserve, an area normally
closed to public access. Bush regeneration is taking place in Peats Crater
and Peats Bight in the northern end of the reserve.
Come and be involved in essential bush regeneration organised
by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. Travel by boat to Muogamarra
Nature Reserve then a short bushwalk to the site..
Tools, training and morning tea are provided, no experience
is necessary. Bookings are essential to ensure your place on the boat!
Bush Regeneration - Sat 07 &
Sat 21, 09.00-12.00
Lobster Beach, Bouddi National Park
Bouddi
National Park protects coastal heaths, moors and beaches once typical
of the greater Sydney region. However the Spotted Gum forest of Lobster
Beach is being invaded by weeds: come help us protect this beautiful area
from further devastation. Volunteers to this site will play a significant
role in restoring and enhancing the biodiversity of the Bouddi Peninsula.
Work alongside experts from the NSW National Parks and Wildlife
Service to combat weeds and reclaim the land for native plants. No experience
required, tools and training provided.
Bush Regeneration - Sat 14 & Sat 28, 09.00-12.30
Happy Valley, La Perouse, Botany Bay National Park
This
beautiful oasis needs your help! Join a group of dedicated volunteers
for a fun morning helping to preserve this unique coastal area. The Botany
Bay NP is home to over 350 plant species and shelters a remnant of the
vegetation once typical along the Sydney coast. However the park's location,
surrounded by high-density development, makes it particularly vulnerable
to weeds.
Work alongside experts from the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service
to combat weeds and reclaim the land for native plants. No experience
required, tools and training provided.
Bush Regeneration - every Mon morning
Dunbogan - Gogleys Lagoon/Trevors Corner
The
Mid North Coast Branch of NPA complete bush regeneration work every Monday
morning at Gogleys Lagoon and Trevors Corner in Dunbogan, a short drive
south of Port Macquarie.
Join in and contribute to the restoration of this beautiful part of the
NSW coast. No experience is required as training is given, so come along
for a rewarding experience while learning new skills and making new friends.
Fish Survey
CoastKeepers
dive groups complete Fish Surveys all along the NSW coast. CoastKeepers
Fish Surveyors are volunteer divers who wish to give something back to
the marine environment they love.
Read more about CoastKeepers Fish Surveys here
and read about the various dive groups who are involved in Fish Surveys
here.
Divers or dive groups wishing to take part should contact
Dave to register their interest.
This project has been assisted by the New South Wales
Government through its Environmental Trust.

Eastern Suburbs Fish Survey - Sun 01
On
the first Sunday of every other month a group of volunteer divers complete
a CoastKeepers Fish Survey at various sites along the eastern suburbs
of Sydney including Ben Buckler at N Bondi, Gordon's Bay and Bear Island.
Coastkeepers forwards the data from these surveys to BioNet, Project AWARE
and the Manly Environment Centre.
