Fish Survey @ Bondi - Sun 5th

A group of volunteer divers undertake monthly fish surveys at North Bondi as part of CoastKeepers @ Bondi.

15 volunteers will be trained by CoastKeepers to undertake the survey with 10 of these divers participating each month. Through this training they will become PADI certified to identify and record fish species found in Sydney Harbour and NSW waters. The volunteer's regular surveys build a picture of what marine life lives at a selected dive site in Bondi over the 6 month project.

Participants in this project include marine biologists, underwater filmmakers, and key local environmentalists.

The CoastKeepers @ Bondi Fish Survey "hub" is one of the first of many CoastKeepers Fish Survey Hubs to be trained on the NSW coast. Click here to register if you would like to get involved. If you belong to a dive club or can organise a group of divers through a dive shop or other organisation and you would like to set up a Fish Survey hub in your area please contact Dave at daver@marine.org.au

The data collected will be provided to Waverley Council, to the Bondi Marine Discovery Centre and also to the statewide online database BioNet.

Underwater Research Group Fish Survey Training Workshop Wed 15th / Training Dives Sat 25th

CoastKeepers are please to announce a Fish Survey course for the Underwater Research Group of Sydney. URG have worked extensively with HarbourKeepers and CoastKeepers on a variety of projects and have been involved with the Fish Survey initiative from the very beginning. The workshop will take place at URG's monthly meeting at the Australian Museum. Training dives will be from Shelley Beach at Manly. URG are the first dive club to be trained as CoastKeepers Fish Surveyors but more courses for dive clubs will be announced shortly. For more information about URG go to www.urgdiveclub.org.au
