skills while making new friends.

Bush Regeneration at Muogamarra Nature Reserve
Sat 3rd
This
is a unique opportunity to visit Muogamurra Nature Reserve, an area that
is closed to public access for most of the year. You will be working in
Peats Crater and Peats Bight, in the northern end of the reserve. These
areas originate from volcanic dykes and diatremes and were extensively
cleared and grazed in the 1840's. The fertile soils have been invaded
by several exotic plant species, which have competed with natives since
the last of the cattle were removed in 1974.
Come and be involved in essential bush regeneration activities organised
by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. Travel by boat to Muogamarra
Nature Reserve then walk alongside waterways and through healthy bushland
to access the sites.
The tools, training and morning tea will be provided, no experience is
necessary. Bring plenty of drinking water, sun protection, long sleeves
and pants, sturdy shoes and a packed lunch.
To get involved you should first register as a
CoastKeeper. Once registered send an email to Dave daver@marine.org.au
to book a place on the boat.
Booking is essential to ensure your place on the boat!
Fish Survey @ Manly - Sun 4th
A
group of volunteer divers undertake bi-monthly fish surveys at sites around
the Manly area as part of CoastKeepers @ Manly. Participation is open
to any diver who has completed the HarbourKeepers and CoastKeepers Fish
Survey course. Through these regular dives a picture of the frequency,
distribution and seasonal variation of 50 key marine fish species in the
Manly area will be built.
Data collected from the Fish Surveys @ Manly is forwarded to BioNet -
the NSW government's online biodiversity database, Project AWARE for inclusion
in a global fish survey initiative and the Manly Environment Centre.
This project is supported by Envirofund.

Fish Survey @ Port Stephens - Sun 4th
Members
of the Charlestown Diving Academy Social Club will be completing Fish
Surveys on the first Sunday of the month in the Port Stephens area.
The data divers gather will illustrate the positive impacts to fish populations
of previous and current sanctuary zones in the Port Stephens - Great Lakes
Marine Park.
This project is supported by Envirofund.

Fish Survey @ Jervis Bay - Sat 17th
& Wed 28th
Divers
from the Jervis Bay Dive Club will complete Fish Surveys on the second
Saturday and last Wednesday of each month.
Club members have frequently participated in marine research programs
inside the Jervis Bay Marine Park and have extensive knowledge of the
Fish Survey target species.
CoastKeepers will forward data gathered by the Jervis Bay Dive Club surveyors
to BioNet, Project AWARE and the Jervis Bay Marine Park Authority to inform
marine management decisions.
The Jervis Bay Dive Club is the first CoastKeepers Fish Survey hub outside
of the Sydney region. This year several Fish Survey hubs will be established
along the NSW coast. Contact Dave if you are interested in getting your
dive club invovled info@coastkeepers.org.au
This project is supported by Envirofund.

Fish Survey Training @ Jervis Bay
- Fri 30th & Sat 1st
Another group of divers from the Jervis Bay Dive Club will
complete training this weekend to be able to participate in HarbourKeepers
and CoastKeepers survey of NSW marine fish. The Fish Survey is a statewide
survey of the frequency and distribution of 50 marine fish species. Data
is forwarded to BioNet, Project AWARE and other agencies to inform marine
management decisions and identify trends in marine pressures.
Training consists of a 3 hour fish identification workshop and two training
dives. Divers who successfully complete training are able to incorporate
Fish Surveys into their normal dive activities and join organised Fish
Survey events. Successful completion of the HarbourKeepers & CoastKeepers
Fish Survey course also results in PADI certification as a Project AWARE
Fish Identification speciality diver.
