Fish Survey @ Bondi - Sun 1st
A group of volunteer divers have been undertaking an ongoing, monthly
fish survey at Ben Buckler, North Bondi as part of CoastKeepers @ Bondi.
This project aims to build up a picture of "what's down there"
and the data that is gathered will be used by marine managers and scientists
to monitor impacts on the marine environment.
October's
dive was a good as it gets: the shock of an early start was soon forgotten
as we cruised around Ben Buckler spotting target fish and estimating their
numbers. Congratulations go out to Steve who spotted a Weedy Seadragon
and to all our other surveyors who together recorded sightings of 28 of
our 50 target species including Luderick, Black-tipped Bullseyes, Old
Wives and Silver Sweep.
The CoastKeepers @ Bondi Fish Survey "hub" is
one of the first of many CoastKeepers Fish Survey Hubs to be trained on
the NSW coast. Click here to register if you would like to get involved.
If you belong to a dive club or can organise a group of divers through
a dive shop or other organisation and you would like to set up a Fish
Survey hub in your area please contact Dave at daver@marine.org.au
This project is supported by Coastcare and Hanson.
Please check out our Fish
Survey pages for more information on the surveys!
Bush Regeneration at Muogamarra
Nature Reserve
Sat 21st
This is a unique opportunity to visit Muogamurra Nature Reserve, an
area normally closed to public access. Located in the northern end of
Muogamarra Nature Reserve, Peats Crater and Peats Bight were extensively
cleared and grazed in the 1840's.
Come and be involved in essential bush regeneration activities
in pockets of weedy areas. Travel by boat to Muogamarra Nature Reserve
then walk alongside waterways and through healthy bushland to access the
sites.
The tools, training and morning tea will be provided, and
after a hard day's work you will enjoy a delicious Barbecue around beautiful
Peats Crater!
To get involved you should first register as a CoastKeeper.
Once registered you will receive regular email newsletters about upcoming
events, however if there is an event you are interested in attending before
you receive a newsletter contact Dave daver@marine.org.au
Booking is essential to ensure your place on the boat!
