Fish Survey @ Bondi - Sun 3rd
Perfect conditions for September's Bondi survey dive resulted in a
very happy team of surveyors and a large amount of sightings of our key
species. Special note goes to our very own "French Connection"
namely Pascal and Christophe who saw 10 Port Jackson sharks in one place!
Ben Buckler, Bondi is proving to be rich in our target fish. Other species
spotted on the day included many White Eared Parma especially some beautiful
juveniles with their luminescent blue markings in addition to their white
"ears". Snakeskin, Senator and Maori Wrasse all made an appearance,
as did a Common Stingaree, many Black-tipped Bullseyes and some graceful
Old Wives.
We are now half way through the Bondi survey project and are starting
to build a picture of "what's down there". A layman's impression
is that there are plenty of fish thriving and surviving at the location,
although it will take a scientist's interpretation of the data to really
understand the situation. As such all the data we gather from Bondi goes
to the NSW Government's BioNet database as well as Project AWARE, Waverley
Council and the Bondi Marine Discovery Centre.
This CoastKeepers @ Bondi "hub" is the first of many CK hubs
to be trained along the NSW coast.
This project is supported by Coastcare and Hanson.
Please check out our Fish
Survey pages for more information on the surveys!
