Grey Nurse Shark research dives - Tues & Thurs, 7am
Boat departs from Manly

Dive with sharks! Divers wanting to help in valuable research investigating whether grey nurse sharks are impacted by the presence of recreational divers can volunteer for this exciting project at Magic Point, Sydney.

Every Tuesday and Thursday throughout September starting from Thursday 4th divers are needed for up to 3 shark research dives each day. You should be confident and competent to dive to instructions and have good buoyancy skills. You must be 18 years or older and should have dived within the last 6 months in conditions similar to those found at Magic Point. Advanced or open water certification divers who dive regularly will be acceptable.

Cylinders and weights are provided so there is no charge for divers with all their own gear. A reduced rate has been negotiated for a reg, bcd and wetsuit package hire.

If you would like to join in please let Dave know which day(s) you are available, what gear you will need, your certification level, when you last dived and number of dives in the last year. Or just contact Dave if you would like some further information (see above).

Bush Regeneration - every Mon morning
Dunbogan - Gogleys Lagoon/Trevors Corner

The Mid North Coast Branch of National Parks Association complete bush regeneration work every Monday morning at Gogleys Lagoon and Trevors Corner in Dunbogan, a short drive south of Port Macquarie.

This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to contribute to the restoration of this beautiful part of the NSW coast. No previous experience is required as training will be given on the day, so come along and gain some new skills while making new friends.

Work starts at 8 am and finishes at 11 am. You should bring morning tea, plenty of drinking water, protective clothing, sturdy shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent and a hat. The meeting place changes every week so contact us in advance to book a place and ensure that you have the correct meeting location. Contact Dave at daver@marine.org.au

CoastKeepers @ Manly Fish Survey - Sun 7th

CoastKeepers Fish Surveyors survey sites in the Manly area on the first Sunday of every other month. The aquatic reserve at Shelley beach and Fairy bower are two favourite sites with many of our target species in large numbers. Other popular sites include Fairlight and Little Manly beach. Data form these surveys is forwarded to BioNet, Project AWARE and the Manly Environment Centre.

International Clean Up The World Weekend
Underwater Clean Up - Ku-ring-gai National Park - Sun 14th

A call for divers to help clean up this popular fishing spot at Illawong Bay in the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, north Sydney.

After 4 clean ups here involving 40 divers and 40 dive hours we have yet to scratch the surface of the mounds of discarded fishing tackle in the water. And this is deep inside one of Sydney's most beautiful national parks.

Divers will work to remove debris including a maze of discarded fishing line and fishing tackle. No prior experience is required though divers should have a minimum of 20 logged dives and have dived in the last 6 months. Contact Dave for details and to book: info@coastkeepers.org.au

This project is supported by Envirofund.

Fish Surveys - ongoing

CoastKeepers dive groups will be completing Fish Surveys as part of their normal diving activities. All CoastKeepers Fish Surveyors are volunteer divers who wish to give something back to the marine environment they love.

Dive groups are collecting data from key locations all along the NSW coast. The data they gather is collated by CoastKeepers to be used by marine managers to monitor impacts on the NSW marine environment.

Read more about CoastKeepers Fish Surveys here and read about the various dive groups along the NSW coast who are involved in CoastKeepers Fish Surveys here.

Divers or dive groups wishing to get involved in Fish Surveys should contact Dave to register their interest info@coastkeepers.org.au
