CoastKeepers Launch

CoastKeepers was launched on World Environment Day 2005 by world-renowned shark expert and marine conservationist Valerie Taylor.

The event was held at scenic Port Stephens as part of the Festival of Whales. Local Member John Bartlett and dolphin watching operator Frank Future also played a valuable role in the launch.

With clear blue skies and dolphin watching boats in the background, the Nelson Bay site provided the ideal location to announce the beginning of fun and social environmental activites along the NSW coast.

From marine surveys to bush regeneration to underwater and beach clean ups, CoastKeepers will offer families, workplaces, groups and individuals the opportunity to explore and safeguard our coast.

The launch of CoastKeepers also marked the one year anniversary of HarbourKeepers, a similar program of activities which has enjoyed enormous success in Sydney Harbour. CoastKeepers looks set to build on the success throughout NSW and beyond.
