CoastKeepers Fish Survey Groups
Dive groups all along the NSW coast are participating in
CoastKeepers Fish Survey of 50 marine fish. The Fish Survey enables volunteer
divers to contribute their diving skills to marine conservation while
gathering important scientific data.

Dive groups interested in getting involved in CoastKeepers
Fish Surveys are invited to contact
us.
The following dive groups are conducting CoastKeepers Fish
Surveys in their local waters. If you would like to contact a representative
of any of these groups contact the CoastKeepers coordinator here.
Charlestown Diving Academy

Based in Newcastle, Charlestown Dive's Social Club actively
promotes safe and responsible diving through its training program and
ongoing environmental education for its members. This includes guest speakers
at club nights, annual underwater photography competition and participation
in events such as Clean Up Australia Day and CoastKeepers Fish Surveys
in the Port Stephens Marine Park.
The club has social dives every weekend and monthly trips away. Visitors
to the area are encouraged to visit the shop for information on local
dive sites. New members are always welcome.
Club meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at Warners at
the Bay. Other member benefits include a bi-monthly newsletter with articles
of interest and notices of club trips. See our website
for more information.
Eco Divers

Eco Divers is a volunteer-based marine conservation group who conduct
numerous activities to ensure the preservation and protection of the underwater
environment.
Based on Sydney's Northern Beaches, an area of high marine bio-diversity,
Eco Divers work with other organisations on a variety of joint and self-initiated
projects including monitoring seahorse habitats and shark nets.
Jervis Bay Divers Club

The Jervis Bay Divers Club (JBDC) was established in 1986 by local divers
as a club to cater for divers and their families, both socially and with
diving activities. JBDC has over 90 members comprising over 200 local,
interstate and international individuals.
JBDC promotes and maintains high standards of safe diving practices,
while retaining the 'FUN of DIVING'. Our policy is to promote and protect
Jervis Bay as a unique and excellent diving area. We have been active
in all aspects of the protection of Jervis Bay and have been consulted
by all levels of government.
Club meetings are held on the last Wednesday of the month at the Vincentia
Golf Club. Other member benefits include a bi-monthly newsletter with
articles of interest and notices of club functions. See our website
for more information.
Montague Dive Club
The Montague Dive Club is based in Narooma on the Far South
Coast of NSW. The club is very informal and aims to give local and Canberra
divers an opportunity to dive in the South Coast's beautiful waters. We
organise shore and boat dives at sites from Ulladulla down to Eden and
have a particular focus on the iconic Montague Island, which we visit
several times a year.
New members and visitors are always welcome. The Montague
Dive Club welcomes the new Batemans Marine Park as a means to protect
marine life in our area and we will be monitoring the impacts of the Park
on fish populations using the CoastKeepers Fish Survey.
SURG (Solitary Islands Underwater Research Group)

SURG aims to increase understanding of the underwater environment
of the Solitary Islands Marine Park and adjacent waters and to promote
the social aspects of diving. Our membership is very diverse; most members
are active divers and all are keen naturalists. Our membership includes
tertiary-trained biologists and talented underwater photographers.
SURG was founded in 1985 and since then has held educational displays
and underwater clean-ups, produced quality photographic ID books and contributed
papers for scientific journals.
SURG has become well known for its research work on the benthic communities
of the SIMP including:
- Mapping habitat distribution.
- Conducting biodiversity surveys.
- Establishing a photographic inventory of fauna.
- Monitoring coral bleaching.
- Monitoring the spread of corallimorph colonies.
SURG has also set up an underwater interpretive trail at North Solitary
Island. See our website
for more information.
Getting your business or group involved in CoastKeepers
Businesses, social groups, clubs - all organisations are
invited to get involved in CoastKeepers activities. CoastKeepers events
offer a great chance for participants to learn more about the marine environment
and help safeguard the NSW coast.
If you would like more information on how your organisation
can get involved in CoastKeepers please contact
us.
Open and Closed Events
Organisations can participate in CoastKeepers activities as either Open
or Closed events. In both instances CoastKeepers will help in the organisation
and promotion of the event to raise awareness of your organisation's contribution
to marine conservation.
The main difference is that Open events will be promoted to all our CoastKeepers
volunteers as an event they can join and that Closed events are for the
organisation's members or customers only.
If you want your business or group to get involved in CoastKeepers
